GLADYS MINERVA MACQUARRIE (nee MAHAFFY) Peacefully on November 22, 2001 with family at her side Gladys Minerva MacQuarrie died at the age of 72. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, William Beveridge MacQuarrie. Gladys is survived by her three children, Peter (Verna), Mary (Ed Smith), and William Paul and her three granddaughters, Meaghan, Vicky and Teri. Gladys was born in Calgary on January, 16, 1929. She grew up and was educated in Sceptre, SK. She moved to Swift Current to receive her training as a x-ray technician and then moved to Winnipeg to work where she met her husband, Bill. Gladys and Bill married in May 1952 and went on to raise their three children in Silver Heights. Gladys was active in the community by being involved with the church, Strathmillian School Library, Amnesty International and other volunteer organizations. She was very interested in the world around her and as a result, she attended Continuing Education at the University of Winnipeg. She was interested in religion, the humanities, philosophy, and various health issues. Gladys was concerned for the less fortunate in society and she always tried to help others. She especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, swimming, biking and reading. A memorial service to celebrate Gladyss life will be held Tuesday, November 27 at 11:00 a.m. in Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Ave., with Reverend Nancy Sanders officiating. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Riverview for the care they gave Gladys as her health declined.
